Editorial Manager
The Manager, Editorial provides administrative and motivational team leadership locally and internationally to writers and translators. Works primarily with design, art, and web managers to ensure projects have appropriate editorial resources. Coordinates projects as required and works with the Director of Production on a regular basis to meet deadlines. Approves editorial content for web and game related content and is available to write content as required. Provides feedback to team members on a regular basis.
Responsibilities:
Team management/administration:
Ensure team members have adequate resources to perform duties.
Ensure content is delivered on deadline.
Has strong knowledge of projects each team member is working on and can provide day-to-day direction.
Ensure goals and creative markers set by Creative Team are represented in editorial content.
Provide approval on editorial content for web & game related projects. This includes but may not be limited to scripts, newspapers, safe chat phrases, blogs, special emails, virtual books, etc.
Assign tasks on weekly basis. Work with writers and translators and provide constructive feedback throughout writing process. Can copyedit quickly to improve content when needed.
Coordinate with managers for special projects to provide adequate editorial staff resource as requested.
Provide editorial content on various projects as needed across the company.
Work with Creative Team (along with art and design managers) to ensure creative direction is being met in product.
Invest in growth of team; regular goal setting and training for international team.
Qualifications:
BA in Fine Arts, Communications, or Journalism or equivalent experience
2-4 years experience in editorial management, content publishing
Fluent in English
Skills and Abilities:
Proven ability to lead team in line with Club Penguin culture
Proven grasp of syntax and proficiency in copyediting
Demonstrated ability to translate Club Penguin philosophy of development and team into department and projects
Well developed sense of language; competently apply a ‘less is more’ philosophy to writing
Passionate about communicating to children: skilled written and verbal communicator
Project management skills: proven ability to manage human resource and effectively report progress and status as needed
Collaborative approach to leadership and development
Organized and provides strong direction for team
Proven creative writing ability and critical thinking skills
Proven skill in writing for the Web
